Bed bugs sit around the bed rather than in it: frame joints, slats, screw holes, behind the bedhead, the skirting gap and the seams of a chair nobody moves. Bites in a line, small blood spots on the sheet, dark specks in the joints. The room gets treated as a whole and it takes two passes, because nothing on the market kills the eggs.
Short-stay and holiday accommodation is where this spreads on the peninsula. Different guests every week through summer, luggage in and out, and one untreated room seeds the ones either side. The second visit at about two weeks is what finishes it, timed for what has hatched since.
